On OSX Yosemite (and others) there is a known bug that prevents installation using the GUI mode of the installer. Hopefully Apple will fix this bug in a future version of OSX. Until then, you MUST run the installer in text mode in a Terminal - such as by doing:
$ ./path/to/installer.app/Contents/MacOS/installbuilder.sh --mode text
